Paul Revere & the Raiders
Paul Revere & the Raiders

Paul Revere was born on January 7, 1938 and as a young man
formed his first band in Boise, Idaho called the Downbeats, later
changing its name to Paul Revere and the Raiders in 1960.

Becoming their manager, Portland, Oregon DJ Roger Hart
of KISN began to introduce them in the Pacific Northwest,
where in 1961 they gained enough recognition for an
instrumental, “Like Long Hair,” that gave them their first national hit.

Under the guidance of Doris Day’s son, Terry Melcher,
Paul Revere and the Raiders had their first top ten hit with
“Just Like Me” in 1965. The following year “Kicks” and “Hungry”
landed in the top five of the Hit Parade, giving the group their
first million sellers. In 1967, “Him or Me – What’s It Gonna Be”
earned them more gold.

In 1971 Paul Revere and the Raiders topped the charts with
“Indian Reservation,” a best seller for 22 consecutive weeks.

Among their more than twenty other hits nationally were,
“Steppin’ Out,” “Ups And Downs,” “I Had A Dream,” “Too Much Talk,”
“Mr. Sun, Mr. Moon” and “Birds Of A Feather.”
